HEALTHY + CHILD-FRIENDLY MATERIALS WERE LARGELY RESEARCHED AND SPECIFIED TO ENHANCE THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE PROJECT.
MATERIAL HEALTH + SUSTAINABILITY
Materiality and the tectonics of the space were a priority for the design team. We carefully chose healthy and durable materials to incorporate into the project. For example, the Feature Wall is constructed of HDPE (High-density Polyethylene) which not only met our construction needs of a material that is lightweight, durable and affordable, but also met our healthy material goals of being BPA free, resistant to corrosion or chemical leaking that could be harmful to children, and un-absorptive to moisture, bacteria, and odors.
HEALTHY MATERIALS LAB
Started at Parsons School of Design, The Healthy Materials Lab is dedicated to a world in which people’s health is placed at the center of all design decisions. The Lab is committed to raising awareness about toxics in building products and to creating resources for the next generation of designers and architects to make healthier places for all people to live.
